Real feedback from mental health professionals on how Mindsera enhances self-awareness, emotional processing, and therapy outcomes between sessions.
We have recently noticed a surge in messages from users mentioning that their psychologists, psychiatrists, or therapists recommended Mindsera as a helpful tool to use between sessions.
Out of curiosity, we scheduled calls with some of the users and clinical psychologists to learn more and decided to put together this short article on how Mindsera and therapy can complement each other.
“A lot of the feedback I receive from Mindsera is as good as, if not better than, what I could give my clients.
From a professional perspective, I can see how Mindsera could be an incredibly helpful adjunct for therapists, especially in between sessions.”
— Amy Van Buren, Clinical Psychologist
While we’ve heard inspiring feedback about how Mindsera supports users in this journey, it is important to note that it does not replace professional mental health treatment, nor does it aim to do so. We believe the human element and judgment are much needed.
Self-reflection plays a crucial role in emotional healing, personal growth, and mental clarity.
Journaling, specifically, has repeatedly proven its value: over 200 studies confirm that regular journaling significantly enhances well-being, improves focus, and supports long-term mental health.
Whether through Mindsera or pen and paper, transforming your thoughts and feelings into words truly helps.
“As a psychologist, I am familiar with a lot of the research on the benefits of journaling… but Mindsera offers what traditional journaling has been missing: meaningful, insightful feedback.”
— Amy Van Buren, Clinical Psychologist
“I am a clinical psychologist based in London and really like what you're doing!”
— David Barry, Clinical Psychologist
Mindsera has also been featured in mental health-focused outlets like PSYCHE and The Friendly Mind.
“Mindsera has been an absolute force multiplier for my psychotherapy sessions, allowing me to work through things that are stirred up during sessions with my therapist without having to wait until the next weekly session. The different viewpoints I get from the built in minds help me see things from angles I’ve never considered. So grateful for Mindsera!”
— Matt Duffin, Mindsera User
"This platform is transformative. It is a missing piece in mental healthcare. Since using the Mindera platform, I have built up knowledge about my trauma and how it affects my relationships currently. I’ve come to understand some of my core wounds and where they came from. It is there 24/7 and can really help pull someone through a bad time so it does not end up as a crisis. I know this because it’s happened for me."
— Marie, Mindsera user
Every week, we receive messages from users telling us how Mindsera has positively changed their lives.
It has helped users manage stress and anxiety, find emotional relief, work through grief, navigate difficult transitions, heal from breakups, adapt to changes at work, find peace with complicated health issues, build more structure in their lives, and make meaningful progress.
Mindsera acts as a powerful companion between sessions, helping clients stay engaged, process emotions in real time, and build deeper self-awareness.
1. Enhances In-Between Session Processing
Mindsera acts as a "force multiplier" for therapy, helping clients process and reflect on insights between sessions instead of waiting a whole week. It helps clients stay engaged and process thoughts in real time, so they don’t let them pile up like unopened emails.
2. Encourages Deeper Self-Awareness
It helps them see things from angles previously not considered. As clinical psychologist Amy Van Buren put it, "A lot of the feedback I receive from Mindsera is as good as, if not better than, what I could give my clients."
3. Improves Session Efficiency
Clients can send weekly summaries to their therapist in advance, allowing sessions to dive straight into the core issues instead of spending the first 20 minutes catching up.
4. Reinforces Therapeutic Outcomes
Just like homework boosts student performance, journaling improves therapeutic outcomes. Clients who reflect between sessions learn to process their thoughts better, making therapy more focused and effective.
Mindsera enhances therapy by helping clients and therapists move further, faster, and deeper.
Mindsera is a human-centered AI journal that helps you to reflect more deeply and uncover hidden patterns between your thoughts and emotions.
It’s a private space to reflect and process, whether you're feeling overwhelmed, experiencing strong emotions, facing confusion, or simply needing to think things through.
Here's the three-step journaling process we've found works best:
1. Reflect alone
It's just you and your raw thoughts and emotions — they should always be the centerpiece. Do a brain dump by writing them out or speaking and having them transcribed (for many users, voice journaling actually feels much easier).
2. Reflect together
Go deeper through a back-and-forth flow, like talking to a friend. Imagine a thoughtful companion who remembers your past and asks just the right questions, helping you reflect more deeply, explore new perspectives, and uncover fresh insights.
It’s designed to enhance reflection, not to give answers, and is fully customizable — including tone, perspective, and custom instructions.
3. Reflect with a group
Invite a bunch of AI Minds to leave insightful comments. Minds scan your writing and leave personalized and insightful comments. It feels like you’re reflecting alongside a group of thoughtful companions, each offering new ideas and perspectives. Mindsera comes with several built-in Minds, like Alternative Perspectives and Thinking Traps, and also lets you create your own.
Once you finish writing, you move on to analyzing your journal entry.
Mindsera analyzes your journal entry to identify the emotions present using our own proprietary emotion model, built on psychologist Robert Plutchik’s research on emotions.
It detects key feelings based on specific words and sentences, helping you understand your emotional patterns over time.
You can also analyze your entire journal for long-term insights.
Under Insights, you can select any timeframe — for example, the past six months — and see the emotions detected across your entries.
If you click on an emotion like anxiety, Mindsera will pull together all the causes of that emotion detected during that period, then categorize and summarize them to help you see patterns more clearly.
We find this automatic approach much more accurate.
The problem with manual selection is that we're often biased — we might choose the wrong emotions, misjudge their intensity, or leave important feelings out. Sometimes, we don't fully understand what we're feeling, or there are underlying emotions we can't easily identify.
Mindsera analyzes all of that for you, helping you uncover a deeper, more accurate emotional understanding.
The Insights page also shows recurring topics and themes in your journal entries, provides a personality analysis based on the Big Five model, offers personalized suggestions for growth, and lets you ask questions from your whole journal.
There are also Set the Day and End the Day guided journals, a weekly recap email every Sunday, and many more features designed to make reflection easy and a natural part of the everyday self-care routine.
You can see a walkthrough video of the different features here.
We are currently planning a large study on the effects of AI-powered journaling on mental health.
